Used to attach and detach referenced models, adjust reference settings and select reference tools. Opens when the Reference icon is selected in the Primary Tools tool box, when File > Reference is chosen from the main menu bar, and when Display > Reference is chosen in the Raster Manager dialog box.
When on, displays a tree that shows the active file and references that are directly attached to it. References that have other references attached to them (nested references) are listed in black text, and references that do not have attached references are listed in gray text.
If a reference in the hierarchy has a nest depth value of 1 or more, you can:
click on the (+) sign and expand the hierarchy display.
select the reference. When you do this, the References list box updates to include only the references that are attached to the selected reference.
When the tree is turned off, you can use the arrow button next to the Show Hierarchy icon to list the active file and any references that are directly attached to it. As in the tree, if you choose a reference that has attached references, the References list box updates to include only the references that are attached to the selected reference.
Opens the Attach Reference dialog box, which lets you attach a model to the active model.
Uses a boundary, such as an element or fence, to clip a reference. The area of the reference outside the boundary is not displayed. For details, see the Set Reference Clip Boundary tool.
Covers a portion of a reference that is inside a boundary. More than one clipping mask can be specified for a model. For details, see the Set Reference Clip Mask tool.
Deletes a clipping mask. For details, see the Delete Reference Clip tool.
Sets the back clipping plane, which is a boundary used to clip a 3D referenced model. The position of the clipping plane is measured along the view's z-axis. Only the portion of the reference in front of the back clipping plane is displayed. For details, see the Set Reference Back Clip Plane tool.
Sets the front clipping plane, which is a boundary used to clip a 3D referenced model. The position of the clipping plane is measured along the view's z-axis. Only the area behind the front clipping plane is displayed. For details, see the Set Reference Front Clip Plane tool.
Reloads and redraws a reference, which lets you see changes that have been made to the referenced model since it was last attached or reloaded. For details, see the Reload Reference tool.
Moves the references. For details, see the Move References tool.
Copies the references. For details, see the Copy References tool.
Resizes references. For details, see the Scale References tool.
Rotates references. For details, see the Rotate References tool.
Reflects a reference about a horizontal or vertical axis. For details, see the Mirror Reference tool.
Copies the selected reference, then attaches a view of the reference by folding it about an orthogonal axis or a line defined. For details, see the Copy Reference By Folding tool.
Sets options for displaying references. These options include Wireframe, Wiremesh, Hidden Line, Filled Hidden Line, and three types of shading.
In a sheet model, the Presentation menu has one additional option: True Hidden Line. Unlike the other reference presentation options, True Hidden Line generates a new vector model of the reference, with hidden lines removed. In the sheet model, a reference set to True Hidden Line looks similar to a reference set to Hidden Line. However, when you print the sheet model, a reference set to True Hidden Line will print as a true vector image. A reference set to any other presentation option (such as Hidden Line) will print as a raster image.
For details, see the Set Reference Presentation tool.
Detaches the reference from the active model. For details, see the Detach Reference tool.
Determines if a reference is highlighted and surrounded by a border.
Lists the references attached to the active model file.
To change the categories of reference information displayed, right-click on the row of column titles. Use the menu to turn columns on or off.
To sort the list by a category, click on the category title. For example, click on Slot to sort the list by slot number.
For each reference, these columns are displayed by default:
Slot — a unique number assigned to the reference. To edit a slot number, slowly double-click on the number, then key in a new number. If you key in a slot number that is used by another reference, the slot numbers are exchanged.
File Name — the file containing the reference.
Model — the model name for the reference.
Description — the description of the file containing the reference.
Logical — the logical name for the reference.
Presentation — the presentation method (for example, wireframe).
Display (icon) — if on, the reference is displayed.
Snap (icon) — if on, you can snap to elements in the selected reference.
Locate (icon) — if on, you can identify (select) elements in a reference for construction purposes.
The “ symbol in the Display, Snap, and Locate columns means that the reference is redundant - it appears as a nested reference in more than one place in your tree at the same position, scale, and rotation, with the same clip boundary. |
Displays and controls the attachment settings for a selected reference. The settings are similar those on the Reference Attachment Settings dialog box.
Many of the settings are represented by icons. If the icon is pressed, the setting is on. Click the icons to toggle the settings on or off.
If you select multiple references that have different settings, the icons representing different settings are shaded. For example, if one of the selected references has True Scale enabled while the other selected reference has True Scale disabled, the True Scale icon is shaded.
The Tools menu provides tools for working with references. Many of the tools can also be accessed by right-clicking on a reference list box item.
Opens the Attach Reference dialog box, which lets you attach a model to the active model.
Key-in: DIALOG REFERENCE ATTACHURL
Detaches the reference from the active model. For details, see the Detach Reference tool.
Detaches all referenced models from the active model.
For details, see To detach all references.
Reloads and redraws a reference, which lets you see changes that have been made to the referenced model since it was last attached or reloaded. For details, see the Reload Reference tool.
Reloads and redraws all references, which lets you see changes that have been made to the referenced models since they were last attached or reloaded.
For details, see To reload all attached references.
Toggles from the master file to an attached model.
Moves references. For details, see the Move Reference tool.
Copies references. For details, see the Copy References tool.
Resizes a reference. For details, see the Scale References tool.
Rotates references. For details, see the Rotate Reference tool.
When Rotate is chosen, the Rotate Reference dialog box opens, letting you set the rotation angle(s).
Merges referenced models into the master DGN file.
For details, see Merging reference DGN files.
Promotes the nested attachment to a direct attachment so it can be modified. The nested attachment becomes redundant with the newly created direct attachment. Quotation marks under Display, Snap, and Locate indicate a redundant attachment.
Reflects a reference about a horizontal axis. For details, see the Mirror Reference tool.
Mirrors a referenced model about a vertical axis. For details, see the Mirror Reference tool.
Sets the front clipping plane, which is a boundary used to clip a 3D referenced model. The position of the clipping plane is measured along the view's z-axis. Only the area behind the front clipping plane is displayed. For details, see the Set Reference Front Clip Plane tool.

Opens the Attachment Settings dialog box, which sets attachment information for the selected referenced models.
The Attachment Settings dialog box also opens when you double-click a referenced model in the list box in the References dialog box. |
Opens the Hidden Line Settings dialog box, which sets the display attributes of the selected referenced models. This menu item is disabled unless the active model is a sheet model and the presentation of a selected reference is set to True Hidden Line.
Opens the Update Sequence dialog box which changes the display order for all operations involving the updating of the view windows.
Opens the Adjust Reference Colors dialog box, which modifies or adjusts the color table for references.
Places a dashed border around the reference.
Highlights the reference.
If on, icons in the dialog box's tool bar wrap when the dialog box is resized.
