Ray Tracing Settings

Used to control basic ray tracing settings.

Shadows

If on, shadows are rendered for each light that has shadows enabled. If off, no shadows are rendered for any lights.

Key-in: RAYTRACE SHADOWS

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET SHADOWS [ON | OFF]

Reflections

If on, reflections are rendered for any elements that have a Reflect material attribute value greater than 0. If off, no reflections are rendered for any elements.

Key-in: RAYTRACE REFLECTIONS

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET REFLECTIONS [ON | OFF]

Reflect is set for a material in the Define Materials dialog box (Settings menu > Rendering > Define Materials).

(Reflections) Max

The Max field to the right of the Reflections field sets how many reflections can be generated per ray if Reflections is on. This can be any integer from 0–999.

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET MAXREFLECTIONS [value]

Transparency

If on, transparency is rendered in a view that has its Transparency attribute on (Settings > Rendering > View Attributes), and transmitted rays are computed for any elements whose Transparency material setting is greater than 0.

If off, transparency is not rendered for any element. This also applies to elements that have patterns with transparent backgrounds assigned to them.

Key-in: RAYTRACE TRANSPARENCY

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET TRANSPARENCY [ON | OFF]

Transmit is set for a material in the Define Materials dialog box (Settings menu > Rendering > Define Materials).

(Transparency) Max

The Max field to the right of the Transparency field sets how many transmitted rays can be generated per ray if transparency is on. This can be any integer from 0–999.

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET MAXTRANSPARENCY [value]

Environment Mapping

Available only if environment maps have been specified for the design. You can specify environment maps via the Apply Material tool.

If on, environment maps are used for any element that is reflective or transparent when no element is seen in the transmitted or reflected direction.

If off, no environment maps are used for any elements.

Key-in: RAYTRACE ENVIRONMENT

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET ENVIRONMENT [ON | OFF]

This control is available only if environment maps have been defined (see Environment Maps).

Fresnel Effects

If on, Fresnel effects are rendered, which account for the increased reflectivity and decreased transparency of elements when viewed at sharp angles. For example, a window appears more reflective than transparent when viewed at a sharp angle.

If off, Fresnel effects are not rendered.

Key-in: RAYTRACE FRESNEL

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET FRESNEL [ON | OFF]

Quick Display

If on, you can preview the ray traced view more quickly. This is done by ray tracing the view in multiple passes; the first pass provides a rough view in one eighth of the time it takes to ray trace the final image. The image is then refined on successive passes until finished.

Key-in: RAYTRACE QUICKDISPLAY

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET QUICKDISPLAY [ON | OFF]

Quick Display is disabled when Delayed Display is on for a view, or when you save images to a file. Delayed Display is set for a view in the Rendering View Attributes dialog box (Settings menu > Rendering > View Attributes).

When Quick Display and Display Rendering Statistics are both on, at the end of each pass the amount of time that remains to complete the image is displayed. On a multi-tasking workstation, the actual time may vary from the estimate depending on system load.

Render All Objects

If on, all elements are considered when rendering instead of just those that are visible in a view or fence contents, so that reflections of, or shadows cast by, elements outside the view or fence contents are rendered.

If off, only those elements that appear within the view or are in the fence contents are rendered.

or

Key-in: RAYTRACE SET EXTENTS [ON | OFF]
