Current Dictionary

Shows the location of the user dictionary file.

Word

The field where you type the word to add to the user dictionary.

Suggested word

When you add a word to the user dictionary and assign it either of the two “Conditionally change” options on the Action pull-down menu, you can also assign it a suggested replacement word by typing it in this field. When Spell Checker flags the word you added to the user dictionary, the suggested replacement word displays in the Change to field and as the first entry in the Suggestions list box of the Spell Checker dialog box.

(Word) list box

Alphabetically displays all of the available words in the user dictionary.

Add word

Adds the word you typed in the Word field to the list box below it.

Delete word

Removes the word selected in the list box from the user dictionary.

Action

For each word you add to the user dictionary, you can assign an action that Spell Checker will perform every time it finds that word.

• Ignore (skip)
— (Default) If set for the word you add to the user dictionary, when found, Spell Checker treats the word as correctly spelled.

• Conditionally change, using case of checked word
— If set for the word you add to the user dictionary, when found, Spell Checker treats the word as incorrectly spelled and displays (as the first replacement word) the specified Suggested word. The Suggested word in this situation is displayed in the same case as the flagged word.

• Conditionally change, using case of suggested word
— If set for the word you add to the user dictionary, when found, Spell Checker treats the word as incorrectly spelled and displays (as the first replacement word) the specified Suggested word. The Suggested word in this situation is displayed in the same case as the Suggested word.

• Exclude (treat as misspelled)
— If set for the word you add to the user dictionary, when found, Spell Checker treats the word as incorrectly spelled and provides the default list of closest matching suggestions. Use this Action to flag words that otherwise might be ignored by Spell Checker, such as homonyms. For example, if you typed the text “drawing plain” instead of “drawing plane,” Spell Checker would ignore the text since both are valid words.
