Modify Raster

Use it!

Used to modify a raster image's origin, size, rotation or affinity. Only one raster file at a time can be modified. You can use the tool settings window to make the changes, or you can modify the image interactively.

When working interactively, scaling and rotation modifications are performed relative to the image anchor point, which is set at the:

If necessary, you can move, interactively, both the image and the image anchor point.

Interactive modifications are made via handles and arrow symbols, located at the midpoint of each edge, as well as at each vertex of the unclipped image. That is, if you have a raster image that has been cropped, a rectangle graphic defining the original attachment is displayed. Handles appear relative to this rectangular graphic.

You can change the scale via the handles at the midpoint of each edge, or those at each vertex of the image. Using the arrows at the midpoints, you can change the affinity, while the curved arrows at each vertex let you rotate the image.

When working with 3D raster images, it is possible to apply a modification in all of the views.

The Move operation on a raster image is always done parallel to the X-Y plane.

It is now possible to apply modifications to raster images even when the setting "Apply Rotation and Affinity to Raster" is turned OFF (in the Display/Print tab of the Attachment Settings dialog box). This setting disables the rotation and affinity handles, but it is still possible to perform Move and Scale operations. Note that when performing Move and Scale operations with the "Apply Rotation and Affinity to Raster" toggle set to OFF, the rotation and affinity values of the raster attachments are lost.

The additional key-ins listed below enable you to snap to the corners and the center of the raster.

Tool SettingEffect
Origin X, Y and Z

Sets the location, in working units, of the lower left corner of the selected raster file attachment. The Z field is grayed out when working with 2D images.

Display

This option menu lets you choose between Pixel Size and Scale Factor to set the size of the raster file.

When set to Pixel Size, the size of each pixel is defined by the X and Y fields. Sizes are defined in working units.

When set to Scale Factor, sets the scale factor of the raster image in the format 1:n, and the scanning resolution in dots per inch (DPI).

Rotation

Sets the rotation angle of the selected attached raster image.

Affinity

Sets the affinity angle for the selected attached raster image.

To modify a selected raster image
  1. Use the Select Rasters tool, or the Raster Manager dialog box, to select the raster image file to modify.

  2. Select the Modify Raster tool.

  3. Make the required changes to the settings in the settings window.
    or
Identify a handle, or arrow, and drag it to modify the image graphically.
You can modify the attached image as follows:
Handles (at vertices and midpoints of image edges) — to change the scale relative to the anchor point.
Horizontal/Vertical arrows — to change the affinity.
Curved arrows (at vertices) — to rotate the image about the anchor point.

To select and modify a raster image interactively
  1. With no raster files selected, select the Modify Raster tool.

  2. Identify the raster image to modify. The identification point also will set the anchor point for scaling and rotation modifications.

  3. Make the required changes to the settings in the settings window.

Horizontal/Vertical arrows — to change the affinity.
Curved arrows (at vertices) — to rotate the image about the anchor point.

To select an image and move the image anchor point interactively
  1. Select the Modify Raster tool.

  2. Identify the image.

  3. Identify the image anchor point, indicated by two circles.

  4. Move the anchor point to its new location.

  5. Enter a data point to complete the move.

To select and move an image interactively
  1. Select the Modify Raster tool.

  2. Identify the image.

  3. Enter a data point on the image, at a point clear of any handles or the image anchor point.

  4. Move the image to its new location.

  5. Enter a data point to complete the move.
